Visiting Campus Kristiansund on August 25 2022 - Fish2Fork Week in Molde

Image
Fish2Fork project seeks to promote the development and sharing of competences within the fish sector, at all stages of the process, from production to supply. In this sense, it was sought that the Portuguese researchers had access to a Norwegian technology company focused on aquaculture. The company selected was Flatsetsund, located in Kristiansund, an innovative engineering company that has been working with the main national fishfarms in recent years.      The researchers were received by the company's CEO and former engineer, Lars Georg Backer, who provided a guided tour of the facilities and presented the main projects they were currently developing.  Figure 1 - Visit to Flatsetsund. Lars Georg Backer speaking      Their main concerns were plagues and their combat (and anticipation), thus the disinfestation mechanisms have improved over the years, and the process of its latest product was explained in detail: how the fish is ext...

Visiting fish plants Salmar and Nekton on August 24 2022 - Fish2Fork Week in Molde

Image
The second day of the tour offered a unique opportunity to the project researchers: a visit to two fishfarms – Nekton and Salmar – in order to better understand all the stages of the aquaculture production process.      The Portuguese and Norwegian teams left Molde in the morning of August 24 towards Kristiansund where, due to good weather, they were allowed to use a rib to reach the island of Smøla. The researchers dressed up and embarked on this adventure through the Norwegian Sea, which lasted approximately 30 minutes. Figure 1 - Fish2Fork teams dressing up to use the rib to Smøla Figure 2 - The rib trip to Smøla Figure 3 - The arrival at Netkon facilities      Upon the arrival at the Nekton company, the teams were welcomed by Bruna Skipnes, a brazilian biologist who has been operating in these facilities for many years, and who facilitated a tour in Portuguese for visitors. The visit started at the stage of growth of fish eggs (salmo...

Workshop on August 23, 2022 - Fish2Fork Week in Molde

Image
Within the scope of the Fish2Fork project, a research partnership was developed between INOV, ISCTE University (Portugal) and Molde University (Norway). In this sense, a team of Portuguese researchers – Professor João Carlos Ferreira, Professor Ana Lúcia Martins, Professor Augusto Casaca, PhD student Ulpan Tokkozhina and Master’s student Ana Rita Pires – traveled to Norway to attend and participate in workshops and visit companies that belong to or collaborate with the Fishfarms industry.      The first contact took place on the campus of the Molde University, where a workshop was held between research teams and guests from the sector. The session began with the presentation of the project by Berit Helgheim (Associate Professor in Molde) and João Carlos Ferreira. This was followed by the distinguished Per Gunnar Kvenseth, marine biologist and current senior consultant at Nekton, who reflected on the impact of technology development on fish...

Internet of Things (IoT) applied to Fish2Fork

Image
The Internet of Things (IoT) has been a growing field of research as humans and equipment are connected, and equipment is embedded with smart technology.  The IoT laboratory is equipped for a wide range of research tasks such as acquisition and transmission of sensor data to data management platforms, visualization and data analysis platforms, thus encouraging multidisciplinary research in diverse fields of electronics, communication, security, usability, data analytics and BIM models (the data of buildings). In the fish sector we can highlight computer vision to monitor fish feeding in fish farms and the use of sensors to monitor water temperature and quality. Summer School 2022

Image
The Summer School is open to anyone who might be interested, with no prerequisites. The 2022 edition will still operate in a mixed regime, face-to-face and remote. For those who do not need ECTS, as is the case for professionals, an alternative cost is being studied, depending on the number of applications and the capacity of the rooms.  High school students will also be able to follow classes perfectly and it may also be of interest to them to have the ECTS for when they enter higher education. We already have some applications from high school students, namely for the subject Internet of Things (IoT Systems). - Summer School application deadline is 19/6/2022 - Link to apply For more information follow the link .  Fish2Fork  - Improving skills and competencies for monitoring the fisheries process up to the final customer Website: www.fish2fork.eu  |  Email: info@fish2fork.eu Blogue PT: fish2fork.blogspot.com  |  EN Blog: fish2fork-en.blogspot.com...
