Computer Vision and neural network for Aquaculture
As part of a visit to Peniche, on 4th of January 2022, with the goal of identifing research opportunities, a meeting was held with the MARE (Ana Pombo) and SEAentia (João Rito).
The Fish2Fork project was presented and, resulting from the activity of fish feeding and production strategies, a research opportunity was identified for one of the ongoing PhDs, namely Computer Vision and neural network for Aquaculture.

Aquaculture relies heavily on data about fish appetite to guide feeding and production strategies. However, the majority of techniques to determine fish appetite, stress and well-being are inefficient and subjective. Based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) and machine vision we will develop an autonomous technique to access fish feeding intensity with fish movement.

What are EEA Grants?
Through the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are partners in the internal market with the Member States of the European Union.
As a means of promoting the continued and balanced strengthening of economic and trade relations, the parties to the EEA Agreement have established a multi-annual financial mechanism, known as EEA Grants.
EEA Grants aim to reduce social and economic disparities in Europe and to strengthen bilateral relations between these three countries and the beneficiary countries.
For the period 2014-2021, a total contribution of 2.8 billion euros was agreed for 15 beneficiary countries. Portugal will benefit from a sum of 102.7 million euros.
